5 Things That Made Me Happy In February

view from plane window over alps

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but my (slightly belated) New Year’s Resolution was to get back into blogging and now seemed like a good time to start.

I wrote a 5 Things That Made Me Happy In August post last year, and I felt like that was a really nice way to round up what had been happening in my life at the time. So, I thought I’d revisit that theme this month. Here are five things that happened in February 2020 that made it one to remember.

1. Skiing in Cervinia

Saying goodbye to the slopes for a little bit and heading home today. Amazing ski area but we missed two days due to high winds 😫 (which is apparently quite common in Cervinia)… Other than that, it was a dream 🤍

I work for a ski company – you might have seen me gallivanting around the Alps this winter on Instagram – and this was the first FAM trip that I got to take Oliver on as well. It was also the first time I’ve skied in Italy and boy did I appreciate the cheap and abundant access to carbs this country provides. Compared with France/Austria/Switzerland, Italy is much more affordable.

Despite some adverse weather conditions in infamously windy Cervinia, we had a ball. I’ve enjoyed skiing so much more as my technique has improved and I’m so grateful for every opportunity I get to visit the mountains. Oh, and, if you ever find yourself in the Italian Alps, make sure you order a Bombardino to enjoy on a sunny slopeside terrace.

2. Getting over my injury

I’m currently training for the London Marathon and I’ve managed to get myself back ‘on plan’ after sustaining a badly-timed foot injury last month. That’s not to say that my foot is at 100%, it’s more ‘holding up’ than ‘pain-free’ but I’m at the point now where it’s possible to run through it with only minor pain, so I’m feeling hopeful. If you’d like to find out more about my training ups-and-downs you can follow me at @lilyrunslondon. If you’ve got a bit of spare cash to donate I’m running for the Stroke Association and anything you can give will be hugely appreciated. Here’s the link to donate.

3. Spending time with friends

I’ve done a lot of catching up with friends this month, which has been lovely. We had friends round for a Sunday roast after my long run, I watched Frozen II and ate tacos with a girlfriend, went to a friend’s engagement party and got an invite to another. Can’t believe how grown up we’re all getting but it’s been a lovely month for friends and family and March looks set to be another good one.

4. Spring starting to make an appearance

Felt good today. Honestly the most surprising thing about marathon training has been that it’s not about stamina it’s about your body being physically able to put up with the distance. Nearly back on plan after the injury though and celebrated today with a big roast with friends 🌼

I’ve had so many lovely flowers dotted about the house this month. Partly because I got a cut-price trial of Freddie’s Flowers and partly because daffodils are so cheap and plentiful right now I just can’t help buying bunches of them in abandon. The lawn outside our flat is also covered in them, which has certainly made it feel a lot more like spring despite the various storms we’ve faced in 2020.

5. Binge-watching Love Is Blind

Less personal, but hear me out. This programme is an absolute must-watch for anyone who loves programs like First Dates, Married at First Sight, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Selling Sunset… Basically, it’s trash TV, but my God is it good. The season finale has been held back for a few days (released on the 27th February) to give everyone time to binge watch the first 9 episodes beforehand and I am so excited I cannot wait. All I have to say is Mark deserves better than Jessica and Damian is a controlling mess. So. Much. Drama.

Never Miss a Post!

Since booking my tour of New Zealand I’d been feeling quite disappointed that I wouldn’t get the chance to visit the Hobbiton film set. So, I was delighted, to say the least when my friends suggested we take a day trip from Auckland to see it. I’m a big Lord of the Rings fan. I […]

Well here we are, at the edge of a decade. I’ve seen a lot of ten year comparison photos making the rounds on social media so – instead of doing that – I thought I’d put down a few thoughts on what I’ve learnt in the past 10 years. 10 years ago I was 15 […]

I can’t quite believe we’ve slipped into October. As the weather gets colder, it seems only natural to seek warmth indoors. Looking forward to a new house, running @londonmarathon for @thestrokeassociation, skiing (🤞🏻), Mallorca, and a world where we use the words ‘lockdown’, ‘quarantine’ and ‘unprecedented’ a whole lot less than we did this year! Happy new year from me and mine to you and yours 🥂✨*

We went for the festive menu - highlights for me were the spicy beef skewers, duck red curry, and plaintain in coconut milk... but I taste-tested everything and it was all mouthwatering. 🤤 Thankfully, you can still order Giggling Squid’s food on @deliveroo - if now isn’t the time to treat yourself then I don’t know when is! 🎄

At least we got to go and pick one for my mum, drink some mulled wine and say hi to the alpacas 😂🦙
